My Sunday mornings normally consist of getting ready for church and picking out a nice outfit and making sure my hair is nice and presentable. I normally have my son’s outfit picked out the night before to make sure his clothes are ironed and ready to go. Then we go to church where everyone else is dressed up in their nice church clothes as we sit in an air conditioned building to hear the word of God.
One of the greatest joys I have as a writer is to get emails from other Christians around the world. Most of them are Pastors who ask me to pray for them or they tell me how their church is doing.
It is not easy to be a Christian in some of these places because life is hard!
This week I want to share with you about our brothers and sisters in Keyna. They are working hard to share the love and word of Jesus to people around them. This particular church is facing big prayer requests but God has already answered many prayers so the Pastor of this church knows that God hears their cries for help.
What are some struggles that the children of this area are facing?
- Children, all ages are being orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
- Children who are not able to get an education because they don’t have the proper clothes or fees.
- Children dealing with sick parents who are unable to protect and feed them.
- The greatest need is having enough food for these kids so they have a chance to survive.
What are the Church’s plans?
They are praying with the hopes of being able to construct a new building in order to create three classrooms so that the children can get the education they need.
The part that gets my heart is that this church is not the only one in the area that needs help. This church is only one story of the struggles that an ordinary Kenyan faces as a Christian. I had the pleasure of interviewing the Pastor of this church and this is what his response was when I asked him about the children’s needs:
“We can never send the children away, remember what Jesus said? Let the children come to me. What we do we try the best we can to help them, and I thank God my wife is a medical nurse so she handles them with the available help of the church. This is why we desire to have a children orphans center.” -Kenyan Pastor J
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.” -1 Corinthians 12:12
“So in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” -Romans 12:5
“If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. “
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
-1 Peter 2:9
Will you join me in praying for our family in Kenya? They are praying for big things but we know that we serve a mighty God who has already made a way.
