I recently had the opportunity of watching a new documentary called Mining For God by filmmaker Brandon McGuire. It features experts such as Gary Habermas, Michael Licona, Nabeel Qureshi, J. Warner Wallace, Lee Strobel, William Lane Craig, Craig Hazen, MaryJo Sharp, and Paul Copan.
This is not your typical documentary and I hope everyone has the opportunity to see it. Mining for God is a beautiful documentary about life, how Americans view God, and how can we be sure that what we know is the truth about God.
McGuire speaks with random people on the street to get their views on God, Christianity, and even other religions. However, what I found to be the key issue was that he showed a deeper state of how Americans view Christianity. And as McGuire points out 70% of Americans today would say that they are Christians.
Searching for the truth has always been a passion of mine and prior to being a Christian I chased after a lot of things, people, and even other religions to fill the longing I had. After watching this film I quickly realized that this longing is universal.
This film tackles many important issues such as:
What is Christianity?
Are all religions the same?
What proof do we have for Christianity?
Does life (your life) have a purpose?
What does it mean to be a Christian?
Is there proof of Jesus’ resurrection?
This documentary clearly points out the fact of what many religions have eluded to…faith in a divine being. Further, experts like Gary Habermas, Michael Licona, and Paul Copan talk about why Christianity has been set apart from other religions. It is not just a branch of theism that has established a set of beliefs that suit them. These beliefs are based on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and this film talks about such evidence. Personally, if I am looking for evidence on what proof we have on Jesus’ life and resurrection I look to Gary Habermas and Michael Licona.
And of course I can’t leave out William Lane Craig because he points out the areas of knowledge we currently have to know what the truth is about God. These areas are not just biblical sources but are secular accepted independent sources.
Although this would be great for all Christians to watch it is something that I would recommend to anyone seeking to know the truth about God.
