I find so often people are shocked that they find themselves in a situation where they knew they would face their worst nightmare. It’s this situation where it feels you are alone and rejected once again.
Why do we keep allowing people into our lives that do these things to us? You can think about this for hours or simply start implementing a new tool into your life. Lets get to work!
This tool is learning how to protect your heart. We need to love others no matter who they are but that does not mean we need to trust them. Trust is a highly valued thing that should not be taken lightly. We need to learn how to protect our heart. Your heart is a precious part of who you are. It is the most precious organ in your body so it is no doubt why it is surrounded by the intricate arrangement of bones called the ribcage.
So you cannot let just anyone come into your life and tear it down.
Personally, I have set up some rules that are set up to protect my heart, my treasure. I don’t just let anyone through these rules. These rules are set up to protect me like a barricade protects cars on the road. If you are traveling on a road without any barricades you will have no direction and no protection.
This is more geared toward my single Sisters (sorry guys) who need an example of what protecting the heart means. I’m using my own example so you can change it as you see fit for your situation.
1.) My future husband MUST know God and be pursuing Him. My future husband’s gaze must be on our Heavenly Father. When a man does this I will trust him because a man needs to be dependent on God’s love and ways.
2.) I want to know about my future husband’s love for Jesus. So I plan on asking him this very question. You can tell a lot about a man’s heart in the way he speaks. I am not a fair weather Christian and my future husband can’t be one either.
3.) He must put Matthew 6:33 above all else.
4.) My future husband has to be a family man and will be the spiritual leader for the home. I have a 5 year old son who will look up to him and want to copy everything he does.
So now that you have an example of what protecting your heart looks like what are you waiting for? Stop aimlessly driving on a road where you can run into anything, good or bad. Start thinking and writing out ways you can protect your heart.
As always I’d love to hear your comments and questions!
